Week 10- TalkingPoints

 Hi Everyone,


Welcome back to my blog. This week I will be discussing TalkingPoints. This is a messenger application that educators can use to help communicate with family of their students in another language. I have worked with a lot of ENL classes and I can tell that this application can help tremendously. I have seen some parents come to parent teacher conferences and have no idea what is going on with their child's schoolwork. These parents are being blindsided because their child is not telling them the whole story and the teachers are not able to completely communicate to these parents what is going on with their child and what needs to be done. With this application teachers can have translated conversations with these parents that would be more meaningful than just try to communicate on your own with the parent. Some of the draw back as with any translation tool there could be some mistranslations due to grammar or spelling errors. These are minor cons compared to the value teachers can get out of the use of this application. Well that is all I have to say about this application.  Hi everyone, The application that I explored this week was Code Spark. My niece and nephew both started learning coding at a very young age and I see how those lessons have really opened their minds to so much more. Code Spark is an online application where students can learn simple coding. With fun animations students will be engaged and continue to want to learn more coding as they grow up. I think this is an important skill that students should be introduced to at a young age. Coding can help students with their problem-solving skills as well as their critical thinking skills. These are 2 very important skills that can be used by students in many aspects of their lives. Coding is a fun way for parents to help develop their child's math and literacy skills at an early age. I would definitely use this in my classes as a fun little "break" from classwork. This is a way to keep students brains stimulated without them knowing.
