Week 12- Zoom

Hi Everyone, This will be my last post for this semester. I you all enjoyed exploring all of these web applications with me this semester. For my last post I chose an application that we all got to know very closely over this pandemic and that is Zoom. Zoom as most of you know is a way for people to video call and one person or many people. Zoom has many features that make it ideal for business and classroom conference calls. With the present feature you can present powerpoints to the whole conference call at the same time in an easy and seamless fashion. This is very important for class lessons. the teacher can present their lesson slides or video and conduct their lesson to the whole class at the same time. With the mute and unmute features teachers can control who talks and who doesn't this helps with disruptions and distractions. These are some flaws with Zoom as with any application. With technology there comes glitches such as dropped calls and audio problems. Nothing is per...

Week 11- World101

Hi Everyone, Welcome back to my blog. This week I explored World101. This web application provides modules that teachers can use to teach students about different aspects of the world. This can also be a great resource for students to use for studying and writing papers. This application provides modules on current global events as well as historical events. This can be an easy resource for teachers to use in classrooms when teaching a topic that students may not find interesting. The application also provides a nice video introduction to World101 to help you get started and see how you can use this application the best way to fit your needs. This resources also provide lesson plans, essay/discussion questions, and much more for teachers to use in their classrooms. Overall this resource is something both teachers and students will find interesting and helpful. Thank you for joining me another week and come back next week where I will explore yet another important web application.

Week 10- TalkingPoints

Hi Everyone, Welcome back to my blog. This week I will be discussing TalkingPoints. This is a messenger application that educators can use to help communicate with family of their students in another language. I have worked with a lot of ENL classes and I can tell that this application can help tremendously. I have seen some parents come to parent teacher conferences and have no idea what is going on with their child's schoolwork. These parents are being blindsided because their child is not telling them the whole story and the teachers are not able to completely communicate to these parents what is going on with their child and what needs to be done. With this application teachers can have translated conversations with these parents that would be more meaningful than just try to communicate on your own with the parent. Some of the draw back as with any translation tool there could be some mistranslations due to grammar or spelling errors. These are minor cons compared to the valu...

Week 9- Anchor

Hi everyone, Welcome back to my blog. This week I explored Anchor. This app helps to easily create podcast that can be distributed over different platforms. This app can be used by teachers as another useful remote learning tool. Teachers can create these podcast that can help students in school and remote with their studies. Podcast can be a confusing and difficult thing to figure out when you are a beginner and Anchor can made this process a lot easier. Not only can teachers use this app to spread extra lessons to those students that may find it helpful but students can also use this app to create podcast with their friends and classmates for entertainment or educational purposes. This can be a great start to help student with their career in radio DJing or other media careers. Podcasting can help students start a career or even get involved in things that they are passionate about. Anchor can make this easy for students to start creating podcasts and developing their speech and...

Week 7- Code Spark

Hi everyone, The application that I explored this week was Code Spark. My niece and nephew both started learning coding at a very young age and I see how those lessons have really opened their minds to so much more. Code Spark is an online application where students can learn simple coding. With fun animations students will be engaged and continue to want to learn more coding as they grow up. I think this is an important skill that students should be introduced to at a young age. Coding can help students with their problem-solving skills as well as their critical thinking skills. These are 2 very important skills that can be used by students in many aspects of their lives. Coding is a fun way for parents to help develop their child's math and literacy skills at an early age. I would definitely use this in my classes as a fun little "break" from classwork. This is a way to keep students brains stimulated without them knowing. Well that is all I have for you this week see ...

Week 6- Mixerpiece

Hi Everyone, This week I have chosen to explore Mixerpiece. This application is a fun way for students to create works of art and learn about art history at the same time. It is a digital magnetic board where students move and combine shapes and items into their own works of art. This app takes parts from different masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa and students are able to combine different parts of that art with other masterpieces to create their own and also learn about each masterpiece and their significance during their time period. This app is very interactive for students and also allows students to share their final work of art. If students are having a hard time getting started they can simply just shake the device they are using and a random combination of elements will show and and students and use that as a template to start their creation. Overall I think this app is a fun way to see the creativity of students as well as teach them the importance of art in history. Th...

Week 5- iCell

Hi Everyone,  This week I chose iCell as my web application to explore. I was inspired by the classes I've been assisting with as a substitute teacher for the last week or so. In the past week my classes have been learning about cells and the different parts of the cell and I observed that a lot of the children were not really engaged or following along with the teacher as the teacher taught about the different parts of the cell and what each parts function was in the cell. That is where iCell could help. iCell is an application that teachers can use to show a 3-D interactive image of a cell. Students can click on a part of the cell and there would be a description of what that part is and what it does. There are also different difficulty levels for the descriptions. This can be used for different grade levels. There is a basic, intermediate, and advanced level. Teachers can pick which level would be appropriate for their grade level and this would be a fun and interesting wa...
