Week 7- Code Spark

Hi everyone, The application that I explored this week was Code Spark. My niece and nephew both started learning coding at a very young age and I see how those lessons have really opened their minds to so much more. Code Spark is an online application where students can learn simple coding. With fun animations students will be engaged and continue to want to learn more coding as they grow up. I think this is an important skill that students should be introduced to at a young age. Coding can help students with their problem-solving skills as well as their critical thinking skills. These are 2 very important skills that can be used by students in many aspects of their lives. Coding is a fun way for parents to help develop their child's math and literacy skills at an early age. I would definitely use this in my classes as a fun little "break" from classwork. This is a way to keep students brains stimulated without them knowing. Well that is all I have for you this week see ...

Week 6- Mixerpiece

Hi Everyone, This week I have chosen to explore Mixerpiece. This application is a fun way for students to create works of art and learn about art history at the same time. It is a digital magnetic board where students move and combine shapes and items into their own works of art. This app takes parts from different masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa and students are able to combine different parts of that art with other masterpieces to create their own and also learn about each masterpiece and their significance during their time period. This app is very interactive for students and also allows students to share their final work of art. If students are having a hard time getting started they can simply just shake the device they are using and a random combination of elements will show and and students and use that as a template to start their creation. Overall I think this app is a fun way to see the creativity of students as well as teach them the importance of art in history. Th...

Week 5- iCell

Hi Everyone,  This week I chose iCell as my web application to explore. I was inspired by the classes I've been assisting with as a substitute teacher for the last week or so. In the past week my classes have been learning about cells and the different parts of the cell and I observed that a lot of the children were not really engaged or following along with the teacher as the teacher taught about the different parts of the cell and what each parts function was in the cell. That is where iCell could help. iCell is an application that teachers can use to show a 3-D interactive image of a cell. Students can click on a part of the cell and there would be a description of what that part is and what it does. There are also different difficulty levels for the descriptions. This can be used for different grade levels. There is a basic, intermediate, and advanced level. Teachers can pick which level would be appropriate for their grade level and this would be a fun and interesting wa...

Week 4- Facing History

Hi Everyone, This week I chose to explore Facing History. I thought it would be interesting to since last month was black history month and this month is women's history month. This web based application was very interesting. It is a place that teachers can go to to find resources and help with their lessons. Teachers have access to people that can help them in a pinch with sources or resources that can help teachers make lessons more effective for students to understand. Facing History also promotes respect and tolerance. This is extremely important especially during this time in our lives when racism seems to be getting worse. Educating our youths is one step in fighting racism that can be extremely impactful for the future of our country. Facing History provides teachers with support at anytime. With that flexibility teachers can have more time helping students that may need extra help instead of spending time looking up resources. I hope more schools implement Facing History i...
